Decades later, a school teacher finds unexpected romance while healing from a long-awaited rhinoplasty. A volcanic eruption on a Caribbean island in 2018 forces a culinary prodigy to confront a choice that may wound the person she loves most. A struggling mother in New York then makes a dangerous attempt to silence her daughter’s memories of a past life. Centuries later, in the titular story, descendants protect a precious family heirloom—one that began as a kitchen-counter science experiment—as humanity leaves Earth.
With wry humor and clear-eyed tenderness, Forever Egg asks the question: what do we owe the people we love and how do our choices reverberate across time?
About the Author
Tierney Oberhammer is a writer living in New York’s Hudson Valley. A graduate of the Randolph College MFA in Creative Writing, her work has appeared in swamp pink, The Adroit Journal, Aster(ix), Cincinnati Review, Copper Nickel, River Teeth, and Callaloo. She has received support from the Nancy Craig Blackburn Program, Sewanee, Tin House, the Indiana University Writers’ Conference, and the Elizabeth George Foundation.
